I had photographed Kayla’s Bat Mitzvah the other week, and instead of doing a more traditional Temple photo session, the Derman’s decided to do a much more informal (real) session at their house. I LOVED it! We just hung out at their house for a few hours and let them be themselves. Of course I had to set up  a few shots but I think the overall result is SO much more THEM than any photographs taken of them all dressed up in a Temple. Guys, I seriously enjoyed hanging out with the whole clan, you guys are an AWESOME family!!!!

  • John Argueta - This is definitely the coolest representation of a family I’ve seen. You rocketh mi amigo!

  • Michelle Edgerton - Wow, these are so great! I love that last picture, what a cool family portrait. So much personality and fun and so much interest. LOVE!!!!!

  • Tumbleweed Photography Studio - I love that you let them be them. i think you get much more dynamic pictures and honest true emotion that way. plus it looks like you had some great characters to work as your muse!

I had photographed Kayla’s sister, Alexa’s Bat Mitzvah almost two years ago. What really made me take a step back was when the family met me at the venue and how much Kayla reminded me of Alexa from two years ago. I had to do a double take! Alexa’s Bat Mitzvah was amazingly awesome and fun, so it was no surprise that Kayla’s was just as much so! It was also great to see little “wild man” Jackson, Kayla’s little brother, again as well. This kid is going to be a dynamo for sure!  Sadly though, this will be my last “mitzvah” that I will be photographing. I am focusing on only shooting weddings for now. It was certainly fun though, these guys REALLY know how to throw a party! So congratulations to you Kayla, it was my pleasure documenting your big day!

  • Taha Ghaznavi - wow, these are freakin amazing! how on earth did you produce such incredible lighting? do share :-)

  • kris rupp - Wow again, really amazing Todd!!! You are sooo talented and you captured kayla beautifully!!
