I am SO completely honored to have been chosen by American Photo magazine as one of the top 10 Wedding Photographers in the world for 2012! I hope you don’t mind if I type that again… one of the top 10 Wedding Photographers in the world!!!! YOWZA! I truly want to thank all of my past/present/future clients for trusting me to just do my thing on your wedding day. You all have made this even possible, so THANK YOU! I’m not exactly when this issue hits the newsstands but keep an eye out for it in the near future.
I’m not a big fan of entering photo competitions, for reasons I won’t go into here, with the exception of one organization; Fearless Photographers! It is made up of, run by, and judged by like minded wedding photographers who are not satisfied with making the same old boring wedding photos! Here are a few words by founder, and fellow fearless photographer Huy Nguyen to give you a sense of what it’s all about:
FEARLESS PHOTOGRAPHERS is a unique directory of the world’s boldest photographers who are not afraid to push the limits of wedding photography to surprise you with extraordinary images from your wedding day. Fearless Awards are given to photographs that excel in redefining wedding photography or are just darn amazing! Less than one out of ten images – 10% – are selected by our curators. Our photographers submit many, many great images but we only want to show the very best work from this keenly talented group of photographers.
For more information on Fearless Photographers, please visit their home page here. And without further ado, here are the 24 Fearless Awards I have been so honored to have won thus far. They are in no particular order! Enjoy!
Let me first start off by saying HOLY CRAP!!!!! I entered 10 wedding photos into round 3 of the Fearless Photographer Awards. They received over 900 submissions total, and only choose 10% of those (about 90 winners), and 6 of my images won awards! I am SOOOO honored to have received some recognition, but also to be in such good company, alongside some AMAZINGLY talented photographers! Honestly, I’m not that big of a fan of entering photo competitions, but Fearless Photographers is very different. The judges rotate from round to round, but they are always highly skilled working professional wedding photographers who are producing truly unique work. This is where it becomes different from the typical photo competition for me, it’s kind of like earning street cred from your peers! And when you are competing along with the likes of Ben Chrisman, Erin Chrisman, Huy, Sergio, Olivia Brown, Davina Palik, just to name a few, it’s a pretty big deal! To quote the Fearless Photographer web site:
“We are very selective about the images that you see on our site. We only want to show our best! Thus only the top 10% of all images submitted by over 200 photographers are worthy to be called Fearless Awards and are showcased on the Fearless Photographers site. It’s considered a great honor among our photographers to have earned these Awards.”
Here are my 6 winning images from Round 3, but you can see all the winners from this round here.
I am SO excited to be speaking at Mystic 6 this coming weekend. This is such an awesome four day event for wedding photographers! I have been going to the Mystic Seminars, hosted by Walter Van Dusen, for the last 3 years and each year Walter seems to outdo himself. This year looks to be no different either! This will also be my first time getting up in front of over 200 of my peers to impart some of my knowledge. I am both nervous and excited at the same time! Photographers, if you aren’t busy this weekend, there may be some spots open, come on out and hear the likes of Yervant, Cliff Mautner, Jesh De Rox, David Beckstead and so many more other talented photographers! Here is a link for some more information.
I am still trying to catch up with my blog posting, and I have SO much more to blog, so hang in there. Preparing for Mystic has taken much more time than I had anticipated, so things got pushed back a little further, but rest assured, when I get back I will get all caught up, promise!
