Shields Skate Park

For those of you that don’t know me, I grew up skateboarding (1980’s), and it was a HUGE part of my life for several years. It wasn’t a hobby, it was more of a lifestyle for me. This was back when skateboarding wasn’t nearly as cool as it is today. I even started my own skateboarding magazine called Zoom Lens, which later became Fish Eye. Anyway, every few years or so I seem to get back into it again. With a little nudging from my friend Chico, I am once again hooked. We have been going to Shields Skate Park once a week and am slowly, and sometimes painfully, getting back into the swing of things. I don’t remember it hurting quite this much back in the day! I hope to start taking more and more skate photographs too, when time permits. This is actually how I got started in photography in the first place. It’s nice to get back to my roots and rekindle my passion for it.

This guy Mike is SO good! The first time I saw him skate I was anxious to photograph him. He’s got such great style.

This isn’t from Shields, but I thought I would throw it in anyway. This is me cruising down the street. I was a little nervous putting my camera so close to the cement on a moving skateboard, but then again, I’ve put my camera in much more dangerous situations before!
