We had a decent amount of snow come our way here in NJ the other day. Now, I don’t know exactly what happened to the kid in me who used to love playing in the snow, but sad to say he is gone. I am happy to report though that my daughter Zoe is quite “normal” when it comes to that kid/snow relationship. Perhaps her joy will rekindle my affinity for the white stuff, who knows! Anyway, I did take the opportunity to just wander around my back yard with my camera the day after the snow to see what I could find. I was pleasantly surprised! I’m a big fan of repetition, form, line, patterns and clean compositions in my work, and there was no shortage in my back yard! The snow only serves to accentuate many of these characteristics. So, I thought I would share what I saw with you all. This was a really good exercise in seeing shapes and patterns and organizing them into pleasing compositions.

I love putting these “best of” posts together because it gives me a great opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about all the great shoots I’ve been on this past year. But even more importantly, it allows me to really reflect on what it is I do for a living, which is preserving happy, loving memories for people through my creative eye. Last year’s best of was in the form of a slide show, and my initial plan for this year was to post a top 20 favorite photos from 209 list, but I have a really hard time narrowing down photos! So, because it’s my blog and there is no one to stop me, I am creating a top 20+ favorite photo list of 2009 engagement sessions. I don’t exactly know how many photos are here, but it’s more than 20! Also, I think if I were to make this list a week ago, or even a week from now it could be fairly different. Yes, I can sometimes be THAT indecisive! I’ve also decided that it would be too difficult for me to put these in a definitive order of “favoritism” so I will put some of my obvious favorites towards the top and then it will just kind of get willy nilly! So, a big thank you to all of my clients! YAY! Enjoy!

I met up with Cortney and Ryan in their hometown of Hoboken this afternoon for their engagement session. It was a chilly day in Hoboken, but we rocked it out regardless! Cortney and Ryan were so laid back and easy to photograph. We wandered around the water front for a bit and then headed through the streets of Hoboken to finish things up. Cortney and Ryan were such troopers, braving the cold weather, all the while looking fabulous in the process! I had an awesome time hanging out and getting to know you two today, and I’m really looking forward to your wedding next year!

Having shot Shannon and Bryan’s e-session a few months ago in Hoboken, I already knew going in to today that these two had chemistry together. What I didn’t know, however, were the few set backs Shannon encountered just prior to me arriving. Let’s see, the florist crashed into Shannon’s mom’s car, one of Shannon’s bride’s maids became so sick that after showing up during the prep, she eventually became too ill to attend the wedding at all, and worst of all was that Shannon’s grandmother suffered a heart attack the night before. Shannon didn’t let any of this alter her plans for enjoying an awesome wedding day with friends and family! She took everything in stride and kept on keeping on! I had such a great time capturing Shannon and Bryan’s wedding day too! In fact, this blog post may very well hold the record for the largest number of photos posted from one wedding. Any of you silent blog stalkers out there have some free time to verify this?! Congratulations Shannon and Bryan, enjoy Jamaica!

I’m in the process of going through and keywording some photos and came across one of my favorite photos of Zoe. This was taken almost 3 years ago, which means she was almost 2 in this shot. It’s hard to believe! I’ve always thought this could be an ad for GAP whenever stripes are big again!

I decided to take a trip down memory lane and take a peek and some older blog posts from previous years and thought I would resurrect a few of my favorites over the next few days/weeks. This shot is of my father-in-law in his 1965 Cadillac. This photograph was pretty involved in creating, requiring a few off camera flashes as well as some household flour thrown in front of the headlights too! I was happy with the end result, although I forgot to have him smoking one of his cigars! Oh well!
